Mat, I don't usually post on the forum (I just read it to keep up to speed on the MPA events) but I started doing a new exercise called the Full Contact Twist and I think it would greatly help your throwing. It's used by a lot of full contact fighters, hence the name. Your coaches may already have you doing this type of exercise, but if not, check out the description: www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mm6.htmDennis Ng

Thanks Ed. How you doing. Hope thigs are going well
Well so far raw lifting has been going really good. Unfortunatly my coach wont let me do deadlifts because he says I will be to slow in the cirlce.
Shot Put has been going pretty decent for learning the spin from the begining. First meet 13.9m, second meet 13.32m. I have been doing some weight throw practice and will be enterning shot and weight on saturday this week.
I am looking forward to the end of indoors so that I can start throwind Discus and Hammer.
Overall progress is good speed is up alot more my footwork is better. My cardio is up higher than its ever been.

Sounds like things are going good for you which is great. My shoulder is almost 100% now so I'm starting to go heavier finally it's been along time. I might go into the comp on the 11th but there isn't anyone going from around here but I might make the trip myself. I haven't decided if I'll go raw or shirted it seems that the shirt takes a lot of stress off of my shoulders so I might go that way. Keep up the good work.

Well so far raw lifting has been going really good. Unfortunatly my coach wont let me do deadlifts because he says I will be to slow in the cirlce. Without meeting your coach and knowing about his qualifications this is a risky comment however; "That yahoo needs to go back to school" It really ticks me off that these guys who get their training certificates are so willing to shut down one of the basic overall strength and power building exercises there is. You need strong hamstrings and explosiveness to throw far. Therefore, you could adjust your deadlift training to achieve this goal without hampering your distances. Power Cleans, Snatches, RDLs all help the posterior chain and this is where you will get the base to throw far. I'm not encouraging you to go against your coach. After all you have requirements for staying in the College and you don't want to piss him off so that it affects the relationship you two have and the other positive things you can learn from him. I would encourage you to do your own research on the matter don't just take my word for it either. Check out the Dan John Website again. Post questions on throwing related forums. Question guys that have American records, College Records, State Records etc. Accumulate a wealth of information on training and technique so that you are informed, and you have the knowledge to start to direct your own training with your goals firmly in sight. With that I will end my rant. Brock

Good info Brock. I did some research over the net and it would seem that some of the throwers do deadlifts and some dont it seemed to be personal preference.
I will start slow and get back into it and see how it goes.
(Personally I like deadlifting)
