18 June 10 Arrived In Montreal at 1800. Trained for about an hour, assisted with the venue setup. There's a lot of passion for the sport here in Quebec, lots of younger lifters volunteering to help out with the meet.
Snatch: 40kgx2, 50x2,60x2, 70x2, 75x2, 80kg x2 (x4). Push Press: 70kgx2 (x4), 75kgx2 (x4). RDL:70kgx2, 90 x2, 120kg x2 (x2).

June 20 2010 Pan-Am Masters and Canadian Masters Championship Montreal
Arrived at 0845 to check my weight prior to the 0915 weigh in. Was shocked at my 86.35kg BW (1.3 kg too heavy for the 85 Kg class. Desperate times called for desperate measures, went outside to the 1/4 mile track ran six laps in under 11 minutes (chewing gum and leaving an unsightly trail). Weighed in at 0915 at 85.00 Kg on the nose, proceeded to drink 1.5 litres of grapefruit juice (no ill effects). Managed to come away with a Pan-Am Bronze and a Canadian Silver. Lots of fun lifting with the Master's, great people and a level playing field. Warm-up: Snatch-40kgx2(x3), 50x2(x2), 60x2, 70x1(x2), 75, 77kg, 60Kg (one light single to stay warm )
Snatch: 80kg 85kg 90kg Caught the final snatch overhead, felt the weight on my toes (i.e. sign of an insufficient pull or swing out front). The bar began to turn and couldn't save the lift.
Warm-up: C&J: 40kgx2, 60x2, 70x2, 80, 85, 90, 100kg x1(x2)
C&J: 105kg 110kg 115kg First lift was easy. Second lift went overhead quite easily, but pressed out. Felt confident (had nothing to lose) tried 115kg, racked the clean but my elbows brushed my knees (got the down signal).

Al Congratulation That was very good lifting.Did anyone else from Manitoba go down?Do they have the results posted somewhere? Almost feel like giving it a try over the summer, but not sure if there is enough flexibility left to do a reasonable pull to the overhead position. Anyways, that was great lifting. Harv

Thank you very much gentlemen, Terry Hadlow and Doug Sinclair also competed. Doug did very well, went six for six and set pr's in both lifts (68 years old and still making gains !!). Terry sucessfully opened at 105 in the snatch, but had some difficulty at 111 in the second and third attempt. Jocelyn Normand sucessfully snatched 110. Terry and Normand opened at 128 in the C&J, Normand Jerked 132 on his second attempt, and missed 134 on his third. Terry unsucessfully tried 137 for the tie on the second attempt only to sucessfully get it on his third. Terry won the event on bodyweight with a total of 242. There were a lot of competitions within the competition, many long term friendly rivalries to make the event more interesting. Well Harv, I met a gentleman by the name of Craig Bowman this weekend, he remembered your fine pressing skills and was not surprised by your conversion to powerlifting. If you're considering taking another shot at the O-Lifts, the 2011 World Masters will be in Montreal at the end of August next year.
Cheers, Al

Congrats Al on the medals and your performance in Montreal. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. We should have an Olympic night one of these nights down at the gym I would love to learn some of the technique in the lifts.

Thanks Ed, Always my pleasure to come out and demonstrate how little I know. I'll be in and out of town over the next few weeks, but I'll join you on one of the upcoming bench nights. Oly movements can give you a break from the 'gut-bustin & seeing stars' discipline of powerlifting, and add an element of explosiveness. Like any assistance exercise, the crossover benefits may vary between individuals. Cheers, Al
