15 March 2008 Snatch: (40x2;50x2;60x2)(70,75,80,82.5,85) C & J: (87.5, 95, 105, 110) Training total 195.0
Just in case any members are wondering why I am incorporating Olympic lifts into my training, please refer to one of McLifter's original threads concerning "Finnish Deadlifting Secrets"(i.e. most elite Finnish powerlifters have an Olympic lifting & heavy labour background). I believe that O-lifts provide a high volume of pulls at a significantly lower, but still challenging weight. This appears to result in significantly lower recovery time.
My original coach back in NL (Fred Carberry) rarely performed heavy deadlifts in normal training, but I have seen him perform many power-cleans. I remember that he was rarely injured, yet had a very respectable deadlift in competition back in the early 80's.

Thanks for sharing Al. ;D I haven't met Fred but I've had the pleasure of chatting with Terry a couple of times. One helluva puller! Must be all those fish heads you boyz from the Rock eat when you are young or something.

Fred was quite a powerlifter in his time introducing many to the sport, very respectable lifts in the 82.5 & 90kg class. He retired from powerlifting in the mid 80's. From what I see on the CPU site, Terry Young is now a bit of an icon in the sport, he is a charismatic phys ed teacher also. A great spokesman and promoter of the sport, now inspiring young minds up in Iqaluit NU.
If anybody has the opportunity to get out to the World's in St. Johns, I strongly recommend it; the Rock loves and supports its powerlifters. I am sure that it will be a memorable event.
Cheers, Al

Thanks for the encouragement Brock. I really didn't feel up to training at that time, but I did get through it.

Last day of the evil "Russian Squat" cycle for raw front squat. Added 7.5kg to my 1RM since February (the program predicted a 1RM of 136.5, based on a previous 1RM of 130kg six weeks ago). Attempted 145kg, but it was not a realistic jump.
