My gear consists of rehband neoprenes, lifting shoes, long-johns, arctic mitts, an old sweater and a toque. I strongly recommend the toque, it's an underrated piece of gear (just can't lift well with frostbitten ears).
Thanks for the encouragement over the past year, that is the best lifting supplement of all (this one at least has guaranteed results). All the best to you and your family in the new year Bruce, enjoy what's left of the holidays. Cheers, Al

You have a good wave going with these squats Al several nice crests. How is your recovery? Could you do this with other movements or do you need to do one movement in order to make it work? Stay Warm. Bruce

Well Bruce I'm nearing the end of the base mesocycle and here are my thoughts so far:
-It's not nearly as brutal as Pavel Tsatsouline makes it out to be. Basing the numbers on an estimate of your 1RM of a raw oly-style squat still requires good effort, but not enough to warrant his degree of hype .
-It seems to have a sensible recovery cycle so far; I'm feeling stronger and can pump out more reps without feeling as winded.
- I'm warming up with straight-legged snatches & light O/H squats as recommended.
- Mr. Smolov's program appears to be producing results so far (but the 100lb increase claim seems a little far-fetched).

Very nice amount of work there Al. Keep up the effort. Bye the way, I have a Provincial Record Certificate with your name on it. I can mail it or you could call, drop by for coffee &/or a workout to pick it up. Oh, just to add on the toque theory. Before the HHG was heated a flamed beanie/toque was an imperative piece of gear for all of my workouts. Nothing says dedication (or stupidity, you be the judge) like squatting in your unheated garage in -25C weather and enjoying the hell outta the occasion. Brock
