I just started seeing signs of a nasty chest cold coming on. It affects how much energy one has and causes poor lifting days for us. I was just wondering what foods do you eat prior to getting sick this time of year... I do take vitamin supplements and they seem to work most times but this virus seems to have slipped past my immune system.

WeeKay or Sweet Flag,Rat Root it is a strong tasting root grows in swamps I was taught to harvest and use it at the first sign of a cold. Just chew a small piece or brew up some tea with a teasthingy of chipped WeeKay. If you have some Aboriginal people in your life they may have some and be willing to show you next summer. Seems to boost immunilogical system as well as provide pain relief for sore throats etc. It does work especially in conjunction with a short lay off and some extra sleep.

Vitamin C, lots of water and rest. Sometimes you just have to rest. Or at least modify your workouts so you do not over tax yourself.

Eating lots of raw foods will also keep your immune system thriving during cold and flu season when friends and family are sniffling the days away.Cayenne pepper, ginger, garlic and black pepper are all examples of ingredients that can warm you from within. Use them in beverages as well as meals and keep your internal fire stoked.

Good advice and always a good reminder in this day and age of overly processed foods.

With the exception of a recent stomach flu I haven't really been ill in years and yet I spend many hours in different hospitals for work every week. Here are my techniques.
1) Never ever touch your eyes 2) Get rid of antibacterial products. Check your toothpaste and soaps for triclosan. 3) Eat plenty of yoghurt, cheese and kefir. 4) Avoid anti-biotics except when you really need them. 5) I also like a low dose of Bovine colostrum. Costs about $75 for a year supply at 500mg a day (I buy the stuff That you are supposed to eat 25g a day of for sports performance. 6) Whey concentrate has also been shown to have pair ice results for the immune system (plus it's cheaper than isolate).
If I feel a cold coming on I take a multivitamin and eat some extra veg and fruit and sleep super early. Never turns into a cold this way!
I'm a huge believer in the microbiome. We need to keep the bacteria in/on our body happy so that they protect us. These antibacterial products are a bad bad idea in my opinion, good old soap is much more sensible.

Nothing. If u invent something, expect to be richer than God. Prevntion, washing hands is the best thing as well as (maybe) not letting yourself be run down=keep that cortisol down. Luckily, most people continue to buy supplements, which do nuts, which help he pharmacy's bottom line.
