Posted last Sunday on Ed's log so thought should start my own.Only want to post my Sunday squat workout up to the contest. Mid afternoon 211 lbs 1/2 suit/belt bar x 8 [3sets] 135 x 5 185 x 5 suit/belt 225 x 5 315 x 5 365 x 3[Bruce's idea not to make such a big jump to working sets.] 415 x 2 [5 sets] Next week go to 425 for 5 sets.Last workout before contest will go to 2 sets of 2 with wraps. Kelly the older fellow at the gym who Olympic lifts mentioned this a while ago so have seen it.Take a look when he squats they have a marking on the floor I guess for were the foot spacing should be. It will be interesting if the fellow actually steps on the platform at the next Olympics.Very very strong for a fellow who weighs 286 lbs and is 19 years old.In most cases they end up going to college and become shot putters instead.

Sunday at 10 pm weight 207 1/2 suit/belt bar x 8 [4sets]each set try to get bar lower on my back] 135 x 5 185 x 5 suit/belt 225 x 5 315 x 5 375 x 3 425 x 2 [5 sets] Tried wrapping wrists a couple sets as they seem to be getting stressed the more I try push the weight down my back. Something twitched in lower back 3rd set.Not good!

Sunday at 8:30 am Weight 211 1/2 suit/belt Bar x 8 [4 sets just getting bar lower on shoulders each set.] 135 x 5 185 x 5 suit/belt 225 x 5 315 x 5 385 x 3 405 x 2 435 x 1 [didn't try 2nd rep] 435 x 2 [3 sets] Worked out in empty gym,just couldn't get into it on the first set at 435. Only 4 working sets for next 2 weeks and then wraps on for the next 2 weeks 3 sets of 2.Starting to run out of steam as taking quite a bit to get psyched up for the working sets.Even harder to do in an empty gym.

MY MISTAKE,ONLY 3 WORKOUTS TO GO SO WILL BE 1 MORE WORKOUT SUIT AND BELT,4 SETS OF 2 AND 2 WORKOUTS 2 SETS OF 2 WITH KNEE WRAPS.DON'T PLAN ON DOING ANY SINGLES BEFORE THE CONTEST. HARV

Squats are looking impressive there Harv.
Great video Ed: Young athletes with that kind of talent and drive often get poached by the pros and colleges (there's more money in football and track). Potential olympians only have a narrow window of opportunity (Masters start at 35 in that sport).

445 with no knee wraps is impressive Harv. I never squatted that heavy with out wraps,your one strong man.

Sunday at 9 am Weight 212 1/2 suit/belt Bar x 8 [3 sets] 138 x 5 185 x 5 suit/belt 225 x 5 315 x 5 405 x 2 thp wraps/belt/suit 455 x 1 was looking to do 2 sets of 2 but 455 for 1 just about killed me. Called it a day.

Done till contest.May squat without wraps as not sure if they are worth the aggravation of putting them on.Have tried to start squatting at about the same time as I would in the contest.Because I do a lot of training in the evening I actually train mornings just to get used to lifting in the morning as at most contests I end up lifting usually in the morning Been fun doing these posts but am done for now.This will be the first contest were have done only doubles in training and no singles.Will see how it works. Saturday August 7/2010 Weight in gym clothes 213[actual 209]Start 9:45 am Last squat workout before contest 1/2 suit 1/2 belt[meaning lever not tightened] Bar x 8 [4 sets] 135 x 5 185x 5 suit/belt 225 x5 315 x 3 395 x 3 suit/belt/wrap 415 x 2 435 x 2 455 x 1 high 465 x 1 high 475 x 1 high but not too hard Done till contest next Saturday. Went well as shoulder is wrecked,Tuesday will try to bench 225 with a loose shirt and that will likely be all I'll do in the contest.
