In the past I've tried a diet where I elliminated starchy carbs (breads, pasta, rice, potatoes) from my diet. I also combined it with lots of exercise and lost lots of weight over a short amount of time. ~50lbs lost in 2 months. While I'm eating out of a mess and have a great salad bar at my disposal I've started this diet again. for luch and supper I'm eating my weight in salad and cottage cheese. For breakfast I'm eating oatmeal and boilled eggs and skim milk for every meal. Has anyone else tried such a diet and is there any harm in doing this?

The diet will definitely drop the weight. To lift heavy don't think you come anywhere close to getting enough protein. If you are lifting heavy think you would have to knock off a couple whey shakes every day[say 30 grams of protein per shake] Use a protein powder say less than 175 calories per scoop and you should be good to go. Let us know how this works for you. Harv

I agree with the protien shakes. I've been able to train twice heavy twice a week and I'm starting to feel a bit flat. The strength is still there but I don't feel "large".

I'm far from being "cutting edge" on this type of thing. However, from what I've read, take your carbs in the morning. Use the protein powder as Harv suggested and supplement with Omega-3 fatty acids for the fats in your diet. That is, fish oil, primrose oil, flaxseed oil. If you wanted to count the carbs try to see if you can get it to 100g/day for six days and then have a cheat day where you eat whatever you feel like. Believe me I've counted carbs for a short period and this is hard. The other thing I would do is the fresh fruits and vegetables. You seem to be getting this from the salad bar. How is the lean meat intake?

I would advise you to eat meat, fish and chicken at least twice a day. Supplement oils and or shakes do not pack the punch that animal protien has. Do this for 3 days and I guarantee you will not feel flat. As Brock suggests fruit,I would have some(3or4 pieces) a half hour before your workouts. These suggestions will provide your body with the protien and fat it needs to be healthy and the glycogen to fuel your workouts. Cave man diet go troglodyte big fella!!!!!

Think Snowdaddy was trying to make the meal basis a large salad bar, cottage cheese and not using meat, fish or chicken at these particular meals. This was why shakes were suggested.Anybody can sit down and eat 12 cheese burgers,7 hot dogs and 55 chicken wings.Just kidding!!
This leads me to another topic. Are you benching Sunday by chance? Harv

I have since changed things a bit. I've removed the cottage cheese. I found out from the kitchen staff it's not low fat cottage cheese. Not good. I'm now using a sparing amount of calorie-wise dressing. I've also added lean unbreadded meat to supper and lunch. This week has been very interesting. I picked up a cold/flu on Friday and I'm still hurting. I'd like some down time to recover but it's just not an option while on this course. I weighed myself before the course @ 306lbs. Sunday I weighed myself in gym attire and came in @ 296.5lbs. I think there's some progress here. I'll keep responding with my progress. Oh ya, my recent lifts before getting sick are. Squat 425lbs raw, bench 315lbs raw, sumo deadlift 405lbs x2 raw. So the strength is still there. ;D

I weighed myself again on Sunday and came in at 294lbs. Had a great work out with Cliff Samms and Gary Lacoursier. We decided to give the gym here in Borden a show and put on our bench shirts. Gary had a PB @ 295lbs in an Inzer EHPHD. I managed 405lbs my first time trying my Inzer RageX. Cliff with the big bench of the day easily pressed 585lbs in a Titan F6. Lots of fun was had by all.
