Did anyone else watch the drama of the 105+kg class at the Olympics? Amazing!!! I'll post details and a video link when I find one.

Hey Rob, Steiner won the event by a single kilo,a truly dramatic competition. Finished the snatch at 203kg (in third), missed his first C&J attempt at 246kg got 248kg on his second, made an epic 10kg jump to 258kg to beat Chigishev by 1kg (461 kg total). Chigishev snatched 210kg (technically flawless, pretty close to Krastev's all time best of 216kg, what else could you expect from a coach like the legendary David Rigert), and comfortably finished the competition with a 250kg C&J. Chigishev ended up with a 460kg total. Strong, six for six on all lifts, Rigert was working a sensible strategy when you consider the fact that this was close to Steiner's best C&J. Screbathis is normally very strong in the C&J but this one was just slightly out front, the 257kg jerk was just not going to happen today. Steiner apparently made a deathbed promise to his wife Susann to become a German Citizen and win the gold for his new country. Folks I believe that we witnessed one of defining moments of the games. Here he is at the 2008 Europeans in Italy back in April: Snatch 200kg, C&J 246kg. (Who would have expected a 15kg improvement in the total in just 4 months ?): His 246kg C&J: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT_0JIzyswIHis 200kg Snatch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRTC-MsFq9Q&feature=relatedAnd August 19, 2008 (203kg & 258kg=461kg):www.cbc.ca/olympics/ondemand/?playlistId=1fc05e665aa70ac7547cb9fe74848c45045d8abf&videoId=827561459

And yet weightlifting / powerlifting never seems to get the media coverage that other sports do. The drama is "epic". I've watched both the 2000 and 2004 105+kg olympic weightlifting and it plays out like a story. Very thrilling to watch.

I just saw it last night, that was some contest! Drama and great lifting in abundance! It is a shame that is does not get covered better. Although I think if you had "Bold" you could have seen all the weight classes.
