Here are a few historic results courtesy of www.canlift.ca : 1972 Nationals(90kg)Press-Sn-C&J-total HARVEY HANEC MAN 132.5 105 145 382.5 1971 Nationals(82.5kg) H. HANEC MANITOBA 120 100 137.5 357.5 We can see where the benching talent comes from (a 320 lb C&J and a 231 lb snatch are pretty impressive also). My hats off to you Sir.

I competed for about another year and did end up pressing 310 lbs in a Manitoba contest for the record and 320 in the gym at about 190 bodyweight.A couple years later they dropped the press and I think the record was "retired" That was a long time ago and thanks for posting it,it made my day. Harv

My pleasure Harv, As you mentioned, the IWF eliminated the press in 1973 and retired the records. My old friend Dresdin Archibald wrote a fine article about the evolution and demise of the press in competition. Cheers, www.lostbattalionhallweightlifting.org/da_press.htm

Great article.I guess the problem was that people could press almost as much as the could jerk using the Russian method. Some of this was due to the press being the first lift and the clean and jerk the last lift in the sequence. We see the same today in powerlifting were the squat exceeds the deadlift due to gear and squatting higher than in the past.It will be interesting if raw lifting takes hold and the pattern is reversed. Got any more articles, they are a good read. Harv
