I'm shopping for my home gym when I get to Nova Scotia and I'm having trouble deciding on which Olympic bar to buy. With a bit of research I was surprised to find the number of companies that make 1500lbs rated bars. Some of the names are, York, TKO, Troy, Ivanco, and Hamilton. Prices seem to run from about 219.00$ to well over 500.00$. Some insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I cant add much more to Steve's reply. Here is Eleiko's tensile strength test ( I am a fan of the product, Leoko is excellent also, but fewer distributors and very expensive). "Eleiko Guarantee Every Eleiko bar manufactured undergoes a stringent quality procedure. Each bar is placed in a vice and bent with an hydraulic jack subjecting a force of 1500 kg. No bar will ever be bent that much during competition or training. The bar must spring back to an exact straightness with a maximum deviation of no more than 0,5 mm. The same procedure is repeated on the sleeves but with a force of 2500 kg. Every bar manufactured gets a serial number. From this number we can trace the steel batch back to the foundry, the production date and the date of the Eleiko quality test. This enables us to give 10 YEARS WARRANTY on all competition bars and international training bars." www.eleikosport.se/eng/Page.asp?PageNumber=48If you are having lottery fantasies the Canadian distributor is: Guy Greavette Lake country Brittish Columbia V4V IY3 CANADA E-mail: bcwalift@shaw.ca You can view the product line here : Bud Charniga operates out of Livonia Michigan (just in case you're driving through there, and are seriously considering buying a top of the line bar). www.dynamic-eleiko.com/

Did I forget to mention that I have 4 kids who would all like to go to college one day. I found a York bar rated at 1500lbs for 219.00$. I would prefer to spend under 500.00$. My wife has a hard time understanding an 800.00$ power bar.

Don't they all Snowdaddy, don't they all...............
The York bar or the Texas Power Bar are excellent options. There has been a lot of weight lifted on these implements over the years. It will serve you well.

Well Rob I agree with Brock, The York and Texas Power Bars are good value for the money (there are only subtle differences between these bars and the very top of the line). I got a little carried away when describing how the tensile strength test is performed. Cheers, Al

The Texas Powerbar is not IPF legal, it used to be and matches all the requirements to be but is not any longer. I would go with the texas over the york personally, especially if you have someone in the states to ship it to from EliteFTS.
