Good Day Everyone, Brock and I were discussing some of the old time weightlifting results after the last meet at the HHC. The number of American lifters in any weight class that ever totalled over 400kg were very few (count them on one hand, all SHW's; former powerlifter Shane Hamman had the highest ever American total at 430kg). At this one meet there were 14 such totals in the 100kg class alone (just check out results in the embedded link). This just adds a whole new perspective to the sport. www.dynamic-eleiko.com/sportivny/library/farticles003.html

I grew up reading Bob Hoffmans "Strength & Health"; I really don't recognize many of the names either. It's not a big surprise, when you consider the fact that the Soviets could only field two athletes in any single weight class in an international competition.
It would have been an exciting competition considering that the positions of the eight lifters who totalled 400kg were decided on bodyweight.
