Hey everyone. I'm considering dumping my gym membership and building myself a basement gym. Anyone know where I can look for used equipment? Squat rack, plates, bench.....etc?

I bought my squat(half rack) and flat bench online from Fitness Avenue. I think they're great quality products and pretty cheap $ as well. the shipping is decent also so it wont break the bank! I buy all my Olympic plates locally from Fitness Experience. Their price is $1 per LB so that's crazy cheap. There is also Fitness Depot which is locally as well, but I don't like their Olympic plates because they're a rubber type. They also have very reasonable prices. Both stores do sell racks, benches etc but I found buying online from Fitness Avenue the much better choice in my opinion. FYI - deadlift platform(if interested) is very easy AND cheap to make for a home gym. google DIY DEADLIFT PLATFORM and they will have step by step instructions. Oh, and also google - DIY DEADLIFT JACK, quick and easy to make . . .maybe $20.
Hope this helps ya out!

I haven't officially advertised (Kijiji etc)it yet as I was debating selling it, but I was hoping it would be to someone in the Manitoba PL community. I have this Powertec rack....basically brand new: www.powertecfitness.com/p-31-workbench-power-rack-wb-pr15.aspx ($750 plus tax), plus because the j-hooks that came with it sucked, I'd include a 2nd set of custom ordered ones from NY Barbell that are much better that I paid almost $90 for. "Unfortunately" for us powerlifters, we need to spend a bit more $$$ on a rack that won't kill us. Also have an adjustable Bench, and 400+ lbs, (430?) in brand new York plates, with a Weight Tree.......plus a cheap bar, but it can handle the 400+. Annnnd I have 4 - 4x6 floor mats (one is cut in half) Everything but the bench is basically brand new and used for maybe 4 months ? Served it's purpose while we our 2nd child was a newborn, but I missed the atmosphere of the gym. (At the end of the day, my wife was right!) i.imgur.com/Mgtl0o2.jpg Plates all match the 45 thats loaded, and thats not the bar I have anymore. Dip attachments would be included as well. Pretty much anything you find for used plates will be $1/lb, but I'll let mine go for a good amount less. Not sure what your budget is, but I can guarantee it would be the best bang for your buck and wouldn't be far from a complete gym -Andrew R - aeroncadin@gmail.com
