Without the expense of an Eleiko, can anyone make recommendations for a training bar that is close to the Competition bars we use? Also, where they might be available for purchase..new or used

Check out ER Canada as they sell Texas Power Bars. Mike Armstrong is the owner and he is also the webmaster and Secretary for the CPU. He will set you up with decent shipping.

Brock TPB is a quality bar, that is what I use at the gym I lift at. Rogue fitness has the Ohio Power Bar, they ship out of either Ohio or Edmonton.

I would definitely recommend the Texas Power Bar. I bought one for my home gym and I doubt I'll ever have to buy another bar again. It behaves very similar to the Eleiko, knurling feels about the same, flexes the same. I bought it from Mike at ercanada.com. I believe it was around $500 shipped, don't quote me on that though. It is 45lbs, not a 20kg, but that's ok if you have American made plates like most do. Get yourself a set of lock-jaw collars while you're at it, they haven't slipped at all on me yet.

The Texas Power Bar used to be legal for competitions so they may have had a 20kg version at some point. A very good bar that will serve you for a lifetime of heavy lifting.

I like the Texas power bar, although I do feel it is just a little bit more whippy than the competition Eleiko.
