I've been researching Morning Empty Stomach Cardio and there is lots of conflicting advice. All articles state that cardio training should be at least 30 minutes to deplete glycogen stores in order to burn fat. If you stop eating before 2000hrs when you wake up the next morning you will be in a glycogen depleted state. 'Question', would you not start immediately burning fat during Morning Empty Stomach Cardio after fasting all night? So instead of having to do an hour of cardio to get 30 minutes of fat burning you would only have to do 30 minutes in the morning on an empty stomach to get the same fat burning results (of course you wouldn't burn as many calories). One might state that you would loose muscle. I am taking a post work out drink with all the goodies and I have a high protein breakfast within an hour after the work out. I drink plenty of water before and during morning cardio. Another question, If you were to do Morning Empty Stomach Cardio at least 5 mornings a week wouldn't your body revert into burning fat more readily when glycogen stores are depleted?

The proof is in the pudding. That is look at lean people and there isn't any trick to these people's leanness other than dope, hard work and/or push aways (push away from the table). My humble answer to the question, Would you not start immediately burning fat during Morning Empty Stomach Cardio after fasting all night?, is depends on how fast you run. Real fast=> no and real slow yes. Think of glycogen as the turbo fuel and fat as a slow burning fuel. If you completely depleted your glycogen stores, you'd have hit the proverbial wall and couldn't run anyway. The body's fuel choice can best be described here- www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK22417/ and how the body regulates fatty acids and glucose ie the randle cyle here- ajpendo.physiology.org/content/297/3/E578.full. Exercising on an empty stomach is not the best way to go.Glycogen is the stored carbohydrate that your body uses as its preferred fuel source during exercise. The fasted cardio crowd says that because glycogen is somewhat depleted in the morning after the night's fast, your body will burn a greater percentage of fat during training.

I know that early AM exercise raises my metabolic set point so I burn more cals during the day. I often hit the snowshoe trails or hike on weekends before I eat and if I go long enough will get hungry then a bit weak if I persist then I seem to work through it and my energy levels go back up. Now if only I did not have so many cheat nights,oh well I enjoy both. Besides I look so sexy with a family size bag of Lays in my lap ( soon to be empty) cinnamon bun icing in my beard and a fruit and nut bar wrapper next to my tea( black no milk or sugar)
